How does it work?
To receive Sky Digital you will need a satellite dish, a Sky Digital box and a TV to connect them too!
Digital TV is television transmitted via a digital signal. The future of all TV in the UK is digital, with the
government currently implementing a plan to convert all homes to digital TV by 2012. Simply put, digital TV is better
than traditional analogue TV. This is essentially because more data can be sent in a digital signal. Therefore picture
and sound quality is much better and signal strength is also enhanced to deliver greater UK coverage.
However, this is not all. Because more data can be sent in a digital TV signal, providers, such as Sky Digital, can
offer more from their service, thus greatly enhancing the viewer experience. Digital TV allows for the inclusion of
active menu screens with interactive features such as creating favourites lists and setting programme reminders. The
interactivity does not stop there. With Sky Digital TV the viewer can play games, customise their viewing options, and
do many other things.
As stated above, to receive enhanced Sky Digital TV, you need a satellite dish and a set top box. Sky transmits its TV
signal via satellites in orbit to maximise coverage and reduce interference. Your satellite dish will receive the
broadcasts and covey them to your set top box. Then the Sky box decodes the compressed digital signal and feeds it to
your living room TV to give you a crystal clear and interactive Sky Digital TV service.
What you need
Quite simply, to get Sky Digital all you need is a satellite dish and a Sky Digital TV set top box.
Installation costs £30. For that, a specialist Sky engineer will visit your property at a convenient time for you to
install your Sky Digital TV system. The engineer will discuss with you the best place to locate your satellite dish
(this will be partly determined by local signal strength), then he will secure the dish in place on the outside of
your property, run a cable from the dish to the set top box, and then connect up the system.
And don't worry if you are unsure of how to start up your Sky Digital TV service. The helpful Sky engineer will also
initialise your Sky TV so that your are immediately ready to start enjoying the hundreds of digital quality channels
on offers. |
