Virgin TV

Like rivals Sky, Virgin Media offers a set range of viewing packages to customers. Grouped by 'size', the options are M, L and XL. Each option must be taken in conjunction with Virgin's phone package, which incurs a separate cost. However, in the package, option 'M' is free and it provides viewers with around 35 channels, including the all the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 channels among a number of other 'satellite' channels. Furthermore, Virgin 1 is available and exclusive to Virgin Media customers, Virgin Central. An on-demand option unique to Virgin TV.

Virgin Media TV Packages

Option 'L' offers the same profile of channels as option 'M' but with further additions such as UK TV Gold, Living TV and Eurosport, giving a total package in the region of 85 channels. This package costs £11.50 per month and also must be taken in conjunction with Virgin Phone. Finally, option 'XL' costs £20.50 per month when taken with Virgin Phone. It provides viewers with over 140 channels with extra options such as Nickelodeon, the Disney Channel and 7 Setanta Sports channels. The availability of the Setanta sports package as an incorporated aspect of the £20.50 deal is unique to Virgin Media. Sky Digital TV customers must pay Setanta a direct subscription fee to access its channels.

In addition to its three viewing packages, Virgin Media customers can also upgrade their service in three further ways. Firstly, Virgin Media customers can choose to add a number of premium channels to their viewing portfolio by paying each selected channel's individual subscription price. Premium channels on offer include Sky Sports, Sky Movies, Kids channels and Adult channels. Each premium channel or premium channel package is priced individually. For example, Virgin Media customers can also receive Sky Sports 1 & 3 for the additional monthly fee of between £15 and £24 depending on which Virgin Media package they have. (Most additional channels must be ordered for a minimum of 30 days).

Virgin Media customers can also opt to have Virgin's on-demand TV service. This service essentially offers what it says. Viewers can choose what to watch when they want from a selection of over 500 films, 1,000 music videos, a range of popular drama series and the pick of Virgin Media TV from the previous week. The last option is free for all Virgin Media customers, the other options are charged on a pay as you use basis. However, customers should also be aware that Virgin XL customers only have to pay for the on-demand films option, the rest are free to them as top package subscribers.

Finally for added services, Virgin Media offers V+. Like Sky+, V+ enables Virgin Media customers to pause and rewind live TV feeds and record up to 2 programmes at the same time. More details of this service can be found in our dedicated V+ section.

Above we mentioned Virgin Central. This is Virgin Media's flagship channel. It could be described as the Sky One of Virgin digital TV, however it offers some unique characteristics. Unlike any other TV provider or channel, Virgin Central provides viewers with the option of six different programmes to watch at any given time. With Virgin Media you do not have to fit in with its TV schedule, you create your own bespoke timetable of viewing.

With Virgin Central you can take your pick from many of the best shows around like The O.C., Nip/Tuck, Grey's Anatomy and Spooks. Each episode is available for 15 days. This next generation of channels allows you the viewer to rewind and fast-forward live TV. So you can dip in and dip out when you like.
